To all of you who volunteered last June, I am placing a new slideshow here, it includes pictures of Joan's house when we worked on it then and pictures from this week when we were fortunate to visit with her. She is so very grateful of all she has received and her neighbor Will, who lost his leg as a result of Katrina, now resides with her as they try to fix his home up.
This blog will be dedicated to the recollections of a few of us helping with the rebirth and efforts of rebuilding New Orleans in the years after Katrina...
As told to me by another volunteer who overheard this conversation amongst school staff... "Did you see that tattoo? These are some serious volunteers!" Don't you know it!
I teach because I still believe I can make a difference. I volunteer because I KNOW I can make a difference. I fix old houses, because it creates a link between the past and a brighter future.
